Jerry Lamon Falwell Sr. was born on August 11, 1933 and died on May 15, 2007. Jerry was an American Southern Baptist pastor, televangelist, and conservative activist.
I want to make this clear I do not agree with what Jerry stated at all. I’m using him as an example of someone I feel that has a lot of opinions and was very public about his opinions. Jerry made this statement after the attacks of 9/11 and it appears he was blaming pagans, abortionists, feminists, homosexuals, anyone with an alternative lifestyle for making those attacks and subsequent actions. What is really sad is that while Jerry a televangelist, a man of God stated this, he excludes those who are homosexual, who see themselves as feminist, that want an alternative lifestyle is excluding these people. Excluding those who are pro abortion and blames all of these people for secularizing America. America has been secularized for many many years and long before we made abortion legal, long before women got the right to vote, and long before homosexuals were free to marry one another. America as a nation is still divided. We’re divided by the government, we’re divided by racism, sexism and equality. In some ways we have made steps to change things and make them better but we still have a lot of work to do for equality, end of racism, end of sexism and violence. Jerry’s son Jerry Jr was someone who openly supported Trump and from what I’ve learned many times is that the apple usually doesn’t fall far from the tree. Not that I believe that Jerry is an infallible man of God. I have often thought those who make a lot of noise only tell you part of the story and show you part of it but behind closed doors they sin too. We are not without sin and that I feel is one of the greatest downfalls of organized religion is when we equate sin with going to hell. If everyone that sins is going to hell, hell is going to be packed to the gills. But I’m a spiritual person, I feel more people should explore what they really feel to be the way things should be. Strip away things that don’t make sense. Stand up for yourselves and never stop growing and learning. Equality, end of racism, sexism, these are positive things to believe in.
Some may say that abortion is wrong but again with the way things are in our world I believe that there are exceptions. A woman shouldn’t have to give birth to a baby or have to choose to give it up for adoption. Some say that is playing God but we all play God at times in life. There are instances of abortion when women use it as a form of birth control that I disagree but there are also times in ones life that I feel that a girl isn’t ready, she wants to graduate from high school, she’s poor and doesn’t want this for her child, she has multiple kids, she was raped, there are many many reasons that women choose abortion and I know this will likely make me unpopular but I believe in that woman’s right to choose. Should a man be given equal rights in that decision? More often than not the man doesn’t want to have anything to do with a woman when he finds she’s pregnant so the woman is left to her own devices to make the hard decisions. Not everyone has family to help them out to help them raise their child. And what of those families where domestic abuse is rampant? Do you really think that the girl that chooses to abort her baby because she wants to finish school and not have her family that has abused her also bring an innocent into the world so that they may also be abused?
Jerry had very strong beliefs when it came to our society. Do I feel that we’re living in the last days? If we are I think we’ve been living in the last days for quite some time. But I do not believe we’re living in the last days. I do believe that our society needs to look at what is going on in the world, really look at it. We have time now that there’s this pandemic. Choose to right to change things. Start changing things, make things better. And no NOT by re-electing or keeping Trump as President. I do not feel he has made America great or even good. If what we’re living right now in America is making America great I would rather have an alternative. There needs to be an alternative. There needs to be some serious change. Yes we do need to become less media driven but now with social media it seems that has only increased. But there’s also even more choices for now. Until the government or others try to take control of social media, the Internet and our society. Do you want that? The Internet made it easier for the world to communicate with one another and it’s not always done properly. There’s so much misinformation out there that it is really hard to know what is the truth. Almost anyone can write a story and site proof that what they say is right and true but there’s also someone else out there spinning that truth to their story. Be smart people. Try to see through the bullshit in social media, try to not idolize people and be followers. Stand up for yourself and things that you believe in. Really as yourself what you believe in and is it something you learned or were taught. What are the alternatives? Learn them then rethink everything. Question everything. Don’t settle because that is going to destroy this great nation.
Here’s another example of something I disagree with Jerry Falwell on. Church and State should be separate. We are not sheeple. We don’t need to only have a Christian President. What about having a Jewish President? An Atheist President? I think that politics and religion should be kept separate. Why? Because not everyone believes the same thing. America is the land of the “free” and home of the brave but we really haven’t stood up for ourselves as we should. We have choices and just because someone doesn’t believe in God or believes in many Gods or a different God than you doesn’t make that person bad and doesn’t mean that this person wouldn’t make a good leader for our nation. That’s something to think about. Something to consider.
