This is a very true statement about ourselves. Only we can break the chains that bind our mental state. I’m not saying all mental illness can be broken but there are some that one can come to grips with, anxiety, depression and some others. It is possible but you have to decide to free yourself and free your mind. There are other things that I feel this pertains to as well, when we’re in bad situations such as domestic violence, neglect or other abuse only we can choose to free ourselves from it. I chose to free myself, I’m sure they don’t feel that it was a choice I made but it was ultimately my decision to sever the trauma bond.
I don’t think that is necessarily true… at least not completely. I can see how one can identify true friends better when things are dark around you because those are the friends that are still holding a light and your hand to help you through those dark times. I’m forever grateful for those who were there and are there. I have been blessed with some of the brightest lights in my life and I can only hope that I do that for them as well. I too like being the light in the darkness when the world goes astray.
What I’ve had the fortune or misfortune of is learning just how much I can take and just how much strength I do have. I’m not saying it was easy by any means and in fact those have been some of the hardest things I had to go through. It changes you forever. You aren’t the same as you were and that isn’t such a bad thing but it sure as hell feels like it when you first enter those spots in life. Am I right or what?
