Michael Stipe Once Said…

John Michael Stipe was born January 4, 1960. Michael is an American singer-songwriter best known as the lead singer and lyricist of alternative rock band R.E.M.

If you disagree with me, fine! Because that’s the great thing about America, we can disagree! – Michael Stipe

One of the things I do enjoy is the Freedom of Speech that is in our first Amendment right. I think that a lot of people forget what that amendment means or what it is really all about. Some people take it a bit too far and push the boundaries and some say that is their right to do so but I think that it also makes you look like an asshole. I am all for speaking ones mind and the freedom of press which I think is more-so heavily influenced these days and freedom to gather and protest. I do believe that there are things that people should stand up for and do peaceful protesting to get the message across about what is going on and what is wrong with society today.

I’ve always felt that sexuality is a really slippery thing. In this day and age, it tends to get categorized and labeled, and I think labels are for food. Canned food. – Michael Stipe

I think with sexuality there is a lot that contributes to how open one is about their own sexuality but we do have the right to have that be private in our lives. We should be the one to choose whether or not we’re open about who we love, if we’re bisexual, homosexual or however sexual. We shouldn’t be judged for it but often we are in our world. That has been going around forever and a lot of that stems from religious views which is another reason that I’m happier identifying as spiritual as opposed to part of a religion. Religion has bastardized homosexuality and made it into something ugly that should be kept hidden. If someone hadn’t written rules for that I think that more people would be open to expressing their true feelings or open to exploring options.

Sometimes I’m confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn’t obvious. – Michael Stipe

I’m sure this was some random thought in his head and I appreciate it because I often think this. I often have a lot of random things that I think about and some of those things are just very random but sometimes they are profound things that I pick apart to try to figure out how I arrived at those thoughts. Not everything needs an explanation and not everything is obvious, obviously.
